Great Wall of Scraps & Ridiculous Rain

Last night was the first sewing night with the Philly Modern Quilt Guild.  It was such a great time!! There are some really lovely people in this group.

Of course I couldn't get out of the shop without doing some shopping.

Before the sewing night, I went through my scraps for the APQ swap.  Since everyone's been showing their scraps, here are mine. Look out!  Its the great wall of scraps!

Here are the next month's blocks:
This month's blocks went to the post office this morning.

I haven't been able to do much of any sewing today.  Its been raining since yesterday and today we lost our power.  UGH!  Every 15 min my husband and I were bailing out the sump pump.  Yeah the last time this happened we swore we were getting a battery back up. Good thing we followed through on that one...  Then the power came back and we realized the rest of the basement was starting to flood.  Its been a delightful afternoon.  Thankfully its slowing down.  Maybe tomorrow I'll be able to do some more sewing!

On that note- I love this rainy day fabric and the post over at Quilt Taffy.  She has weekly giveaways on Fridays.  Its certainly a rainy day!!

Wow, you do have scraps! They are fun to play with though. Your blocks are great, love the big flower print in there.

Wet basements, brings back memories. There was a basement in my house in northern Illinois. When we would have a heavy rain it always flooded. We did have a battery back up emergency sump pump in case the electricity went out. It was great at first but eventually we needed it in a heavy rain and it had failed. I stored everything important up high and just got used to bailing and mopping!

The rain has been awful. I got a call to pick up my sons early from their band rehearsal in Ft. Washington--the notorious flood zone. And just in the nick of time, I had to drive through about 6 inches of water to get there.

No power? Yikes! Your wall of scraps looks fantastic, but I'm amazed there is no kitty in one of those boxes. (Mine seem to have a sixth sense for when I open a box and are right there, ready to get in and fur everything up!) I like your new fabrics, too.

Oh dear! I hope the rain tapers off and you can deal with that unwanted water.

I like the scrap bins and I love next month's blocks.

Hmmmmm-----! I think you and I both need to have a "clean up the scraps" day! *giggle* Altogether, mine would look just as bad except that I do have all the little pieces left over from various quilts in little plastic bags -- pink, blue, white; red, white, blue; Christmas little pieces, etc.
Golly, I don't know how you deal with that much rain coming into your basement! I don't know which spreads faster --- fire or water as it seeks its own level! You truly have my sincere sympathy! I saw on the weather map all the red up there; not good!!
All of you in that area: Be careful; stay safe! ---"Love"

That is a very impressive pile of scrap boxes! I like the fabrics you purchased at your guild meeting. Wow, next month's blocks look amazing - I can see Surf and Sand in there too. Gosh I hope you are okay with all that rain. Ann :-)

Oh my Christine, how times have changed. I remember when your entire fabric collection fitted into a little cabinet - how you've grown! :D (very impressed too!)

PS. I love the fabric underneath the jelly roll!

I almost giggles when I saw the picture of your scraps....laughing because I know how it feels!! I've been working on my scrap pile for a week now, and I think it's just getting bigger. My husband says it's breeding like rabbits.
Hope the rain subsides long enough for everything to dry up.
Happy Quilting!!

Love your scraps - look at them all so organized by colour! Extent of my organization right now is darks and lights, and I've got 4 pretty big bins full. Definitely time for some scrappy quilts. Your blocks look great!
What a nuisance with the rain - I do hope it lets up soon for you and you can get things dried out, and that your power stays on! Mopping up after a flood is no fun :(

Friday night was fun! I'm glad I came and worked on my quilt. I finished it just in the nick of time too!

Sorry about the power and basement...hope you guys are staying dry now though.

Your blocks came out beautiful and that's an impressive scrap collection!

Our basement flooded about a month ago. The sump pump broke. That was not a fun day. ;)

Last year we had a lot of rain and I finally mentioned that I had not heard the sump pump in a long time. Good thing we are on a crawl space! And yes, a new pump is down there. That's quite a stack of scrap bins! Your new guild is meeting in a quilt shop? Oh! That's way too dangerous and tempting... Mary

That is a very impressive tower of scraps. Our swap blocks will help use up some of those scraps.
Next months swap blocks look great.
I am so sorry about your flooding. I have doe the bailing out at my parents mor than once and it is just miserable. I hope the rain has stopped and you are drying out.
Glad you had fun with the guild.

Your blocks look great! Looks like you need to get going on about 10 scrap quilts!! Hee Hee! Too bad about the basement. Here in Texas we don't have basements, which makes for less places to stash stuff, but no problems with them flooding. My sister in IL has had your problems a lot, but had a lot of work done so it is better now.

You poor thing. The rain has be absolutely dreadful. It probably hasn't stopped yet for you becaue it's still raining here in Maryland. I'm crossing my fingers for sun soon! Hope you dry out.

I have no good scraps system. I throw them into buckets based on loose color groups (the red/pink bucket, the yellow/orange bucket, etc.). So any system is amazing to me!

I'm so bummed that I missed the fun on Friday! One of these days....

And I'm so sorry to hear about your basement! That really, truly stinks.
